Professor of History of the History Department of the University of Abidjan and founder of the Institute of African History, Art and Archeology (IHAAA), which he directed from 1969 to 1982.

First Ivorian director of the National Center for University Works.

Secretary General of Fondation Félix Houphouët-Boigny pour la Recherche de la Paix  de Yamoussoukro (Côte d'Ivoire).

Under the pontificate of Pope John Paul II, he served on the Scientific Committee of UNESCO. He also chaired the National Consultation on Education in Côte d'Ivoire, and was scientifically responsible for the National Mediation Committee of the National Forum for National Reconciliation.

Joachim Bony was awarded several national and foreign decorations: Grand Officer of the National Order of Côte d'Ivoire, Grand Officer of the Order of the Redemption of Liberia; Knight of the National Order of the Gabonese Republic; Commander of the French National Order of Merit; Commander of the Order of National Education of Côte d'Ivoire; Commander of the Order of Sports Merit of Côte d'Ivoire, Commander of the Order of Cultural Merit of Côte d'Ivoire, Officer of Arts and Letters of the French Republic. Grand Officer of the Order of the Ram of the Democratic Party of Côte d'Ivoire (PDCI - RDA).
