The Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, together with the University of Notre Dame Law School, will host an international seminar on the ethical, social, and humanitarian implications of artificial intelligence. Rooted in the Catholic tradition of integral human development, the event will ask how AI can be directed toward advancing human dignity, social justice, and the common good.
Drawing on the teachings of Popes Francis and Leo XIV, the seminar will explore AI as both a profound opportunity and a serious challenge for humanity. It will highlight the Church’s call to ensure that technological progress never eclipses the value of the human person, but instead fosters solidarity, justice, and care for the most vulnerable.
Over two days, forty international experts will engage in dialogue on key themes, including:
Catholic social teaching in the age of AI
Global governance and regulatory frameworks
AI’s impact on social harmony, justice, and inclusion
Work, labor, and integral ecology in an AI-driven economy
By bringing together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers, the seminar aims to promote a human-centered vision of AI – one that serves peace, fraternity, and the flourishing of every person in the digital age.
